In a very surprising development, the Bruhath Bengaluru Mahanagara
Palike [BBMP] has claimed that it has set up ready to use toilets in HSR
Layout specially for the monsoons.
An officer of the BBMP's Solid Waste Management Department excitedly
revealed the Corporations' plans.
The Corporation has set up flex banners saying "
PAY AND USE
TOILET" along the service lane of Outer Ring Road near HSR
Layout where heavy water logging takes place. A counter has also been
set up to collect money from users. For ?2, a person can urinate into
the drain, while high-end functions will cost ?5. Pairs of rocks have
been placed for users to squat and do their job. The
waves
created when two wheelers pass over the stretch will wash off
whatever needs to be washed away. A premium layout is available for ?10
with Pairs of Hollow Concrete blocks instead of rocks.
When asked about disposing of the waste, the official responded saying,
"It'll rain more, and everything will be washed away into the big drain
going to Agara Lake."
The ruling Congress-Janata Dal [Secular] coalition lauded the move in
the Council Hall, claiming that their government was even more 'Imandar'
than the Aam Aadmi Party in Delhi. The opposition BJP however cried foul
and termed it as a failure of the Siddaramaiah government, demanding
that potholes be turned into Public Toilets instead.
